Hatching new scientists every day!

Week 2: Plants and Trees

This week children will continue to observe their growing plants and check on the results of their experiments about what plants need to stay healthy. Children will spend a lot of time outside as they investigate trees, plants, roots, branches, leaves, and more. They will make connections between what they have talked about and seen indoors with what they see outdoors. They will go on scavenger hunts, make bark and leaf rubbings, collect and sort plant and tree parts, and develop an appreciation for the natural world around us.

Day 1

Day 1

Children go on a scavenger hunt and a “plant walk” to discover the plants and trees around them.

Day 2

Day 2

Today, children make bark rubbings and take a close look at trees.

Day 3

Day 3

Yesterday children investigated some of our biggest plants—trees. Today they will look at plant life growing in very small spaces.

Day 4

Day 4

Children categorize and sort parts of plants and trees. They also check the results of the experiments they set up last week to investigate what plants need to stay healthy.

Day 5

Day 5

Children think about what they enjoy and appreciate about plants and trees.
