Hatching new scientists every day!

Share the Week’s Discoveries

Review the week’s explorations and ideas about ramps.

Tube Ramps

Talk about some of your discoveries with tube ramps, sharing any photos or videos you took.  What objects work better on tube ramps or on flat ramps?  What kinds of things could you do with tube ramps that you couldn’t do with flat ramps?

Different Surfaces

Review the “Different Surfaces and Objects” chart and any photos or videos you took this week. Ask:

  • What surfaces seem better for rolling objects farther or faster? Which ones don’t work as well?
  • What about sliding? Which surfaces seem good for sliding?  Why do you think so?
  • What about the texture or shape of the object—does that change how it rolls or slides down a ramp?

Obstacles

Ask children to describe the three different experiments they tried with obstacles, using your notes, photos, and videos to remind them. What were the different experiments trying to show? What did they discover?

Wheels

Ask children to name some things with wheels that might be fun going down a ramp on (e.g., bike, scooter, skateboard, stroller, roller skates, wagon, go-cart, wheelchair.)

Tell children that next week they will explore more fun and games with ramps…including roller coasters!
