Digging a Hole

In the springtime, find a protected corner in the yard, garden, or park and using a small shovel or spoon help your child dig a hole in the dirt.

What do you find?

Carefully observe everything, living and nonliving. Be especially alert for little creatures that may live under the ground. Record what you find by inviting your child to draw pictures.

For an extension, try digging in a different spot or at a different time of year.
