Review today’s explorations and ideas about shadows.

Have children gather around one of the shadow tracings you used in Shadow Matching along with the objects that made the shadows. Ask,

  • How were you able to match an object to its shadow?
  • What is missing from a shadow tracing that makes it hard to match it with the object it belongs to? What do shadows not show about the objects that make them?

Next, gather children around the tracings they made during Big and Little Shadows. Ask,

  • What did you do to make the shadow grow? What did you do to make the shadow shrink? Why do you think this happened?
  • If you wanted to make a shadow bigger, what would you do? What would you do if you wanted to make it smaller?

Add any new observations and ideas to the “How a Shadow Changes” chart.
