Sound Detective Center

Materials

• stapler, ball, paper, aluminum foil, blocks, toys, books, and other everyday objects to make identifiable sounds that are different from each other

Directions

This activity center helps children identify an object by the sound it makes, even when they can’t see the object. Line the objects up and put them on the floor against a wall or on a shelf. One child makes a sound with one of the objects, while the rest of the children, with their backs turned, try to guess what the object is and how the sound was made. Ask questions such as: Was the paper waved back and forth, or was it crunched into a ball? Model the activity, then have children take turns making a sound for the others to guess.

Extending Sound Detectives: Every other day, change some of the objects.
