Light helps make shadows everywhere.

Materials

  • Me and My Shadow: A Book about Light by Buffy Silverman

Key Science Concepts

  • Indoors, you can change the size of a shadow by moving your body or the object closer to or farther from the light.
  • Outside, a shadow’s shape, size, and position change over the course of the day as the position of the sun changes.

Directions

Before you read: Show children the cover of the book and read the title and the author’s name aloud.  Have them describe what they see on the cover.

After you read: Flip through the pages of the book, asking children to describe what is happening on each page. (They will be familiar with all the concepts: how to make a shadow and the different ways to change a shadow.)
