Look at the “Plants We Eat” chart and ask children to name the different vegetables. Ask, If you were making a soup, which of these vegetables would you include? What’s your favorite vegetable? Did you see any vegetables in the book you’ve never tried before? Which ones would you like to try? Do you remember tasting a new vegetable? What did you think?
Remind children that they saw some vegetables that they could pick and others that are dug up from the ground. Ask them why they think root vegetables are called root vegetables. What kind of vegetable is a carrot?
Ask children if their parents or guardians often tell them to “eat your vegetables.” Why do they want children to eat vegetables?
