Flipping an Eraser

Collect a ruler, a small block or rock to lean it on, and something lightweight, like an eraser.

Place the ruler (lever) over the block (fulcrum). Invite your child to try to flip the eraser as far as she can by putting the eraser at one end of the ruler and pressing down hard on the other end.

Make a mark where the eraser lands. After several tries, move the ruler into a different position on the block and try again. Which position makes the eraser go the farthest?
