Explore: Draw Waterways

Draw streams, rivers, lakes, and oceans, like the ones in the book you just read.

Materials

  • art supplies
  • paper
  • chart labeled, “Bodies of Water”

Directions

Tell children that they will draw a picture of different bodies of water, like they saw in the book. Have them name some of the bodies of water in the book, using the “Bodies of Water” chart if they need help remembering.

  1. Pass out the art supplies and have children draw two or three connecting bodies of water—a river that runs into a lake, or a stream that runs into a pond and then into the ocean, for example.
  2. Have children show their pictures and explain how the different bodies of water are connected to each other.
  3. Hang their drawings in the art center and encourage them to draw other bodies of water during learning center time.
