Explore and Play: Mini Walk

Take a short listening walk.

Materials

  • chart paper
  • marker

Key Science Concepts

  • Different objects make different sounds.
  • Sounds have a source—a sound can be tracked to its source.

Directions

Tell children they are now going to take their own listening walk.

  1. Ask them to be silent, like the girl in the story, and walk around, returning to the circle when you call them (after a minute).
  2. Ask them to say what they heard, as you write it on the chart. Help them to describe the sound: Was it loud? Was it soft or quiet? How did not talking help you hear sounds?
