Tap and Scrape

Objects that make interesting sounds when tapped or scraped.

Print Activity

Materials

empty containers and lids made of various plastics and metals (containers and lids with ridges on the sides make interesting sounds)
cardboard boxes and mailing tubes
craft sticks, rulers, and unsharpened pencils with erasers for tapping or scraping

Directions

Model making sounds by tapping or scraping the containers together or scraping/tapping the containers with a pencil, craft stick, or ruler. Then invite children to make their own interesting sounds. Ask, Can you make an instrument? Save your instrument so we can play it later.
