Explore and Play: Ramps Around Us

Find ramps around the room.

Materials

  • a few ramps set up around the room: a plank against a wall, a book slanted against a bookshelf, etc.
  • chart paper, labeled “Ramps Around Us,” and marker

Vocabulary

Encourage children to use the words ramp, slanted, roll, and slide.

Directions

  1. Ask children to look around the room and see if they can spot things that look like ramps. Tell them that you’ve set up a few ramps, but there may be even more around the room. Ask children, How do you know this is a ramp?
  2. On the chart paper, write down the name of the ramp and draw a picture of it. When children have found all the ramps you’ve set up, ask, What do all these ramps have in common? How are they different?

Then introduce children to this week’s learning centers.
