Hunting for Animal Homes

Activities: Next Activity

The tub is a great place for your child to play with water and learn something about its properties. The concept of absorption is a fascinating one for kids and they can explore it with a few simple materials.

Give your child a dry sponge or washcloth and invite them to push it down into the water, and then pull it out and squeeze it. How much water comes out?

For some added math fun, encourage your child to squeeze it into a large clear container so you can actually catch and see the water. You may both be amazed to see how much water a sponge or cloth can hold.

For an extension, compare different sponges and cloths. Which one holds the most water?
